What desktop twitter client do you use to promote your business?
Twitter.com, Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, CoTweet, Echofon?
Or maybe one of the hundreds of other clients out there?
What if I told you that every single one of your tweets is promoting someone else’s business.. and you probably don’t even know it!
The Problem
When you post your messages to Twitter, no matter which of the popular applications you use, did you realise that you’re giving away valuable real estate and backlinks to someone else?
Want proof?
I have just sent out three tweets promoting my blog.. using three different Twitter clients,
- Seesmic
- CoTweet
- HootSuite
Each of these tweets has been branded with the Twitter client I used to send out that tweet,

Did you know these are actually hyperlinks pointing back to these company’s websites?
So every time you send out a tweet you are advertising this company’s product.. with link back to their website.
You are promoting them for free.

The MarketMeSuite looks different from the original post. The current version doesn't have a Brand Management option that I can see. Please help.
This is very interesting.
Thanks for the information it’s given me food for thought.
Just to clarify to some of your readers confusing these backlinks with back links for SEO, they are different.
The backlinks from twitter are "no followed" so they don't have any SEO value. It is just a branding exercise. (And personally, I wouldn't switch to another tool just for that minimal incremental branding)

Philip.
The posted via X has been moved. It is not as prominent as it once was.
MMS is good but it should not be sold as a twitter branding tool since any one can brand their tweets with @anywhere by twitter them selves.
Just google @anywhere in a nutshell you add 2 lines of code to your site. DONE.
With @anywhere you can also add a tweet box to your site it self. I.E the social media guide could have a tweet box in the sidebar asking users to connect right now on twitter. if someone sends a tweet @thesocialmediaguide would know
I think that is way better than MMS and it is free.
Thanks Eric for the comment!
This is a great eye opener -appreciate the step by step, and also the alternatives in the comments! Thanks Matthew and Eric.
Have Twitter now dropped this "brand management" feature, or banned the use of branding as I see no links to any backlinks on any of the Tweets now?
No Twitter haven't dropped this brand management feature.
If you click on any tweet, you will see where this was generated from.
Please have a look at the last screen shot in this article as an example.
Thanks
Matt
I'm seeing what tony is seeing…that is I'm NOT seeing any branding on any tweets anywhere in any browser.
Here is an example of a branded tweet – http://twitter.com/#!/SocialGuide/status/44610184…
Next to the date you will see via "Social Media Guide".. this is the branded tweet, which links to my homepage.
It is viewable in any browser (I have tested this in Firefox, Chrome, IE8, Safari).
Great Article! Thanks for posting and let me know if you or your readers have any questions!
Thanks for the comment Tammy.
Keep up the great work with MarketMeSuite!
I have a question, I have my facebook & twitter accounts linked (i.e., when I update my status on my facebook business page, it automatically tweets for me too), can your service work when I have my account set up this way?
Hi
If you post to Facebook from MaketMeTweet, and FB posts to Twitter.. your tweets will not be branded.
Regards
Matt
