Setup Google Sync for your iPhone – Contacts and Calendars

Synchronise the contacts and calendar on your iPhone with your Google account.

  • Get Google Calendar integrated with your iPhone’s calendar
  • View multiple calendars in different colours
  • Sync all your contacts with Google whether you access them from your phone or computer
  • Make changes either on your phone or on your Google account on the web

This is a very easy two step process:

  1. Contacts uploaded via iTunes
  2. Google Sync: Setting up your iPhone (NB – this process deletes all contacts on your iPhone. Please ensure the previous step is done first)

If you don’t already have iTunes installed then you will need to download and install it first.

Only the following information can be uploaded:

  • People’s names and job titles
  • Company names
  • Email and postal addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • IM names, including the type of service
  • Notes

Other information, like custom ringtones and photos, are not uploaded.

Contacts upload via iTunes

  • Connect your iPhone to your PC via USB and start iTunes
  • Select your iPhone then click on the Info tab

  • Click <OK>
  • Click the <Apply> button to sync your device with iTunes

NB – After you have completed this step, your iPhone may contain unwanted Contacts from your Google account. Most of these will be removed when you complete the next step and sync your iPhone directly with Google

Please continue onto the final stage of Setting up your iPhone.

Google Sync: Setting up your iPhone

Firstly make sure your iPhone has version 2.2 firmware or above. You can check your current version on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > About > Version.
To upgrade, follow the instructions here.

Before you proceed, make sure you have completed the step prior and successfully uploaded all of your contacts to your PC via iTunes. The iPhone will delete all contacts during setup.

The contacts that are replaced on your iPhone will be the contents of your My Contacts group in your Google Contacts. So make sure to clean up your My Contacts before syncing.

  • On your iPhone select Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars,
