Schedule your tweets with TweetLater

If you ever need to schedule your Twitter tweets for a future time / date then TweetLater.com offers a service that does just that. It is a great productivity tool for busy tweeple.

This maybe handy if a lot of your site’s traffic comes from another country.

You may want to schedule your tweets to appear in Twitter at say around 08:30 am when people are getting to work or school.. or even at 7pm when most people are home.

Some of TweetLater’s features include adding multiple Twitter accounts, schedule tweets, automatically send a welcome message to new followers, rotate welcome messages if you want, auto-follow new followers and auto-unfollow users who unfollow you. The pro-version provides even more services.

Firstly I would recommend setting up an account at bit.ly. Bit.ly is a service that shortens URLs and is integrated with both Tweetlater and Twitter.

For example, if you have a URL that you want to post into Twitter that is very long http://example.com/lkhjaslfkdhjalksdfhjlasfhjalskhf/asdhfalsdkjfhlakshfds/iuyiuy then bit.ly simply shortens it to eg http://bit.ly/p8oPf

You can find your bit.ly API Key by clicking on the Account hyperlink in the top right hand side after logging in.

Once you have setup your bit.ly account now go and create an account and login to Tweetlater.

Enter all your details including your bit.ly username and bit.ly API Key, then click <Save>,

Now add your Twitter account(s) by clicking on Accounts > Add an Account,

Then select Twitter > Continue,

The following screen allows you to setup your Tweetlater settings.

Enter your Twitter User Name and Password.

You may also want to add some of the following (configure as needed),

• Auto Welcome – To automatically send a welcome message to new followers
• Send this Message – This sends a welcome message to new followers
• Auto Follow – To automatically follow people (new followers) who follow me from this point forward
• Auto Unfollow – To automatically unfollow those folks who unfollow you

Then click <Save>,

Now that you have added your Twitter account, lets setup some scheduled Tweets.

Click on Tweets > New Tweet,

Enter / Select,

• The Tweet that you want to schedule for later
• Click on <Shorten URLs> to allow bit.ly to shorten you links
• The time and date you wish to publish
• Select your Twitter account
• Click <Save>

Done!

You have successfully scheduled your tweet. Just repeat this process if you want to schedule some more.

All your scheduled tweets are displayed below (which you can always edit),

When it is time to publish your scheduled tweets they will automatically appear on Twitter as follows,
