As a business owner or blogger who has a Facebook page, there may come a time when you will want to ADD someone else as an administrator of your page.

Maybe you have hired additional staff, or have a close working relationship with someone.. and need an extra set of hands to run with the daily admin tasks of updating content, replying to comments, posting links to your website, managing advertising, etc.

There may also be a time when you will want to REMOVE or DELETE an administrator from your Facebook page.  Maybe an existing admin has left your company, or they have moved onto another project.

A lot of people ask me how to do this, so here is how..

Adding an Administrator

To get started you will need to login to Facebook.

Click on <Make Administrator>,

Question: I help manage pages for my clients, but I have to log in as my clients (under their personal accounts, which are linked to their pages) in order to set up their advertising, since it looks as if FB doesn't allow advertisers to manage multiple accounts (I have my own advertising dashboard for my own business page). So if my client wants to delete his personal page (the one attached to the business page), yet I'm still an admin for that page…who can set up ads (or would the business page "go away")? (Hope this makes sense.) This is a real-life example: I have a client who wants to delete his personal page and simply leave admin status to me and his wife…we're just worried the page will go away or we won't be able to set up ads.

Any insight you have is welcome. Thanks for the great article!

    • Hi Robyn

      Thanks for the comment.

Short answer is, I don't know.. as I have never tested this scenario.

What I would recommend though is to firstly make sure there are at least two administrators on a client's FB Page.

Then, I would try deactivating (ie NOT deleting) that client's FB profile.

Once their profile has been deactivated, you should then be able to tell if their FB Page is still active or not.

I don't believe that their Page would disappear as there are two administrators.

If their Page does disappear, you could simply re-activate their Profile to (presumably) make the Page re-appear.

These are the steps I would take for this scenario.

This article may also help with deactivating a FB Profile – http://thesocialmediaguide.com/2009/07/25/delete-…

      Hope that helps!

I accidentally deleted myself as administrator and I am the only one on the account. There are no fans yet as I just started the page last night. But now NO ONE can access it.

Any thoughts? I was wondering if I'm the first one to "like" my page, would they offer me the chance to be the page's administrator?

I accidentally deleted myself as an adminstrator. How can I get back in. Is the only way to hope and find someone that has admin capabilities to add me back as admin?

  4. Hi Matthew

Have you come across a way as yet to remove yourself as administrator if you set up the page? I made the mistake of setting up a page for a client, not realising I'd not be able to remove myself as admin. This seems to apply to the creator of the page only.

  5. There are a lot of articles in the internet and I am really impressed with this one. Facebook have a lot of features and new features in their social medial site but they lack explanation on how to do thing. It is true that people or users can figure it out by themselves but with this type of articles it would make things easier. And now, instead of just thinking about on how to earn more money, Facebook should give credits to these types of articles.

    Great work! Keep it up!

    Alex
